The search
Jorge travels around Navarino Island looking for a place to build without fighting the landscape. He finds the spot facing the Beagle Channel, a few minutes from Puerto Williams.

A refuge built by hand at the end of the world, and the people who keep it going.
Ten years on the island
Errante didn't start as a hotel. It started with someone travelling around Navarino Island until he found the exact spot where it was worth building, facing the Beagle Channel. Ten years later we still operate from there, in the same place and with the same people, in the southernmost town in the world.
Who welcomes you

I came to stay for a while, and I stayed for good.
For months I walked the coast looking for a place where we could build without fighting the landscape. I found it facing the Onashaga, a few minutes from Puerto Williams. We built the house by hand with lenga wood from here, board by board, learning the trade as the work went on. It took us two years.
What interests me most about this place isn't how remote it is, but what happens to people when they arrive. Time works differently on the island, people walk more slowly and almost nobody is in a hurry. Errante exists so that someone has a place to sit and look at the channel after five days on the trail.
I still live on the island and I still go out on the expeditions, so if you come, we'll most likely meet.
Jorge Caros Lara Founder of Errante Ecolodge. He built the house between 2014 and 2016.
Our story

2014
Jorge travels around Navarino Island looking for a place to build without fighting the landscape. He finds the spot facing the Beagle Channel, a few minutes from Puerto Williams.

2014–16
Lenga wood from the island's forest, responsibly sourced, and our own labour. The lodge is built by hand and oriented towards the channel.

2016
The first guests arrive. The idea was never a hotel with activities, but a comfortable base to head out onto the island and come back to.

2017–25
The Dientes de Navarino circuit, sailing through the Fuegian channels and our own logistics turn the lodge into a starting point, not just a place to stay.

Today
The lodge, the land expeditions and the sea expeditions come together under one name: a sub-Antarctic expedition company with a home of its own.

The house

Lenga wood from the island's forest, responsibly sourced, and an orientation designed around the channel. Inside there is no showroom luxury. There is warmth, seasonal food and windows that do the work.
Here comfort is measured in being able to look at the Beagle with nothing in between, and in coming back from the mountain to a place where time seems to stand still.

More than a decade operating on Navarino Island. We know how to read the weather, the tides and the mountain, and we know when not to go out.
Our own boat, truck and gear. We coordinate every leg of the trip without depending on third parties.
Our own protocols, local guides and satellite communication on every expedition.
Team, suppliers and crew from Puerto Williams. The impact stays on the island.
What we look after

The lodge is built of lenga from the island, responsibly sourced. The material is from here, and so is the forest.

Solar energy, biodegradable cleaning products and waste reduction in every part of the operation. On an island, whatever comes in stays.

Guides, kitchen, crew and suppliers from Puerto Williams. What the trip leaves behind stays where the trip happens.
